There is not a single human being free from sensory slavery.
There are subtle sensory slaveries and gross sensory slaveries.
Mild or severe.
Physical or mental.
None is safe, all are harmful.
Some are addicted to bodily sensations. Others to emotions. Others to moods. Others to thoughts, attitudes, or ideas.
Sensory addictions are the reason why:
You lose emotional control.
You can't save.
You can't eat healthy.
You don't say what you really want to say.
You say what you don’t want to say.
You put off both duties and personal projects.
You break down when you fail.
Life does what it wants with you.
You waste time.
The years go by and you don’t improve (on the contrary).
You easily get triggered.
You hurt instead of helping.
You hurt instead of waking people up.
You hurt instead of being assertive.
You let yourself be stepped on.
You are lazy.
You are disorganized.
You have no discipline.
You can't deal with sudden change.
You have a hard time letting go of control.
Etc…
The Buddhadharma is a tradition that attacks sensory slavery.
Eradicating sensory and mental cravings is its specialty.
Additionally, it is a tradition that yields clarity.
When you master the basics of Buddhadharma, you understand things like:
The reason why you are a slave to pleasure and how to liberate yourself.
What to do to be free from anger without repressing it.
The difference between an egocentric perspective and a genuinely selfless one.
The dramas we live in unnecessarily.
How to fearlessly be authentic.
Transcendental nobility.
The generosity that does not expect anything in return.
Etc…
In summary, to practice Buddhadharma you must:
Stop bullshitting yourself.
Be honest 24/7.
Abandon harmful acts.
Act righteously.
Tame the mind.
Buddhadharma is the solution to sensory and mental addiction. It is difficult but effective.
May you be free from such slavery.
