To be free, know slavery
To know freedom, one must know what is not freedom.
To discern the unconditioned, one must know what is conditioned.
Birth is conditioned. Birth is not free. When there are man and woman, conception, and karma, inevitably there is birth.
The body is conditioned. The body is not free. When there are organs, cells, bones, brain, and tendons, inevitably there is a body.
Consciousness is conditioned. Consciousness is not free. When there are eyes, things to see, and contact between the eyes and those things to see, inevitably there is visual consciousness.
When there are ears, sounds, and contact between the ears and sounds, inevitably there is auditory consciousness.
When there is tongue, tastes... smell, odors… touch, tactile sensations… mind, mental objects...
If there is birth, inevitably there is death.
If there is body, inevitably there is hunger, satisfaction, illness and health.
If there is consciousness, inevitably there are concepts.
What is inevitable is not free.
If we know what is not free, we certainly know what is free.
What is inevitable is conditioned.
If we know what is conditioned, we certainly know what is unconditioned.
There can be no conditioned events without the unconditioned.
